Being saved is as easy as eating and drinking
We learned earlier, that being saved is as easy as receiving a gift. Today, we learn that being saved is as easy as eating and drinking.
John 6:35. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
According to John 6:35, Who is the bread of life? Jesus. The person who comes to Jesus by faith will never hunger, and the person who believes on Him will never thirst.
Do you think that the Lord was talking about physical or spiritual hunger? Let's see from John 6:54; 6:40,47. (John 6:54. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day), (John 6:40,47. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life).
According to these verses, what does it mean to eat Christ's flesh and drink His blood?
- It means we should become cannibals.
- It means that when we take communion, we are really eating Christ.
- It means that we should believe that the sinless Christ gave His body and shed His precious blood for our sins when He died on the cross.
The answer is: it means that we should believe that the sinless Christ gave His body and shed His precious blood for our sins when He died on the cross.
Let's see John 4:9-14. Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
The water that we drink daily can satisfy our physical needs for a time, but who is the only Person who can give us living water that will satisfy our deepest spiritual needs? the Lord Jesus.
As simple as a person can take a glass of water and drink, that's how simple it is to trust Christ and Him alone as our Saviour!.
