KJV says:
1 John 5:13. These things have I written unto you that believe on the Name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life.
New life Bible (1 John 5:13) says:
I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God. Now you can know you have life that lasts forever
Amplified Classic says:
1 John 5:13. I write this to you who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) the name of the Son of God [in the peculiar services and blessings conferred by Him on men], so that you may know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that you [already] have life, yes, eternal life.
Message translation says:
1 John 5:13. My purpose in writing is simply this: that you who believe in God’s Son will know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you have eternal life, the reality and not the illusion.
Reflections:
- Does God want us to play guess-work about whether we have eternal life or not? No. God want's us to be rest assured, with settled and absolute knowledge.
- What kind of life that we who believe on the Son of God have? Eternal life.
- If God inspired the Author to write these words, do you then think it is because they are important? Yes.
- What must be the attitude of the believer when God says a thing? If God says it, then that settles it.
Glory!!!
