A new Law

Paul Introduces a second Law: The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus

So we see 2 laws:

  1. The law of sin and death (weak because of the flesh; human nature).
  2. The law of the Spirit of Life (in Christ Jesus).

The law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus frees the believer from the law of sin and death, while making available the righteousness of law of sin and death

The law of sin and death could not effectively deal with sin. This is why God sent His Son to deal with the sin matter, once and for all. Sin was dealt with, this is why in Christ, the believer’s natural man is dead. But recall that we saw in Romans 7, that the Believer has 2 warring natures (the flesh and the new man). This is because we are still in this body. But God also took care of this problem. This is why He sent His Spirit to live inside of us. His Spirit, the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, makes alive our mortal body, handles the flesh problem. However, the believer has to live according to the dictates of this new law. We’ll see what this new law, and an Obligation.

So the believer has a new Law to which he is bound. The law of the Spirit of life. In Christ, the believer’s old man is dead (because of sin). The believer received a new life.

Walk in the Spirit. What does this mean?

  1. The believer is to submit to God. God’s will and God’s purpose.
  2. The believer has empowerment, because the Spirit of God, who raised up Jesus from the dead lives inside of the Believer. This Spirit gives life to the Believer’s mortal body. Remember that the Believer’s natural man is dead. Conduct the burial and move on.
  3. The Believer has an obligation to “put to death” the deeds of the flesh, by yielding to the Spirit.

Thank you Lord...
