Join me as I do a refresh of basic doctrinal topics of the gospel, these are personal study notes. KJV is used for Bible references.

We're still on the Series: What happened to me the moment I was Saved. Now, we learn about Sanctification.

The moment I was saved, I was separated or sanctified.

1 Corinthians 1:2. Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's

We study 6 facts to help us understand what the Bible teaches concerning Separation (or Sanctification).

Fact 1. The basis of Separation is found in the very nature and character of God Himself.

Isaiah 6:3. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

From the verse, the Seraphim uses a word three times to describe what God is like. And that Word is Holy. We find a similar description in Revelation 4:8. (And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come).

The word Holy means set apart, separated. Thus we could translate Isaiah 6:3 in this way: Separated, Separated, Separated is the Lord of Hosts.

In what way is God separated? We may answer this question in two ways:

God is totally and completely Separated from all that is earthly or created.

  • Was God ever created? Let's see John 1:1 for the answer (In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God).

  • God made everything, but He Himself was not made. John 1:3. (All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made).

  • Did the Lord ever have a beginning? No. Psalm 90:2 (Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God).

  • If all of creation were suddenly to disappear and be gone, would God still be God? Definitely. See Malachi 3:6. (For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed).

  • According to Isaiah 57:15, how did the Lord describe Himself?

    • the High and Lofty One
    • Who inhabits eternity
    • and Whose Name is Holy
  • In Isaiah 6:1 (In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple), we learn that Isaiah saw the Lord sitting upon a throne:

    • High
    • and lifted up
  • Which is higher and greater, the Creator or the creation (the things which have been created)? of course, the Creator

Romans 1:19-25. Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
