We learned that there are four facts that are true concerning the believer's redemption in Christ. In the last lessons, we learned about the Great Redeemer, and the terrible slavery.
Today we learn about the mighty Act.

The Mighty Act

Redemption requires a mighty act of God. This great work of God is described in 1 Peter 1:18-19. (Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot)

  • What were you redeemed with? the precious blood of Christ.

Ephesians 1:7. In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.

In Revelation 5:9, we learn that Christ has redeemed us to God, how? by His blood. (And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation).

The blood of Christ reminds us of the great sacrifice that took place on Calvary's cross when the Lord Jesus died for the sins of the world. We are redeemed from the slavery of sin because of the mighty work our Saviour accomplished on the cross. All of the animal sacrifices in the old Testament were merely reminders that someday there would be the final and perfect sacrifice of the Lamb of God, our Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 9:12-14. (Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God)

Hebrews 10:3-12. But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

All of these animal sacrifices pointed to (and foreshadowed) the perfect sacrifice that would someday be made on Calvary's cross. It was there that the mighty work of redemption took place, as the Lord Jesus died for our sins. Christ paid for our redemption with His own precious blood.
